Join Jade Ogden, of the Handloom Room, at the Somerset Rural Life Museum for an opportunity to weave your very own coaster on a loom using colourful British wool.
Saturday 21 September, 10am – 4pm
FREE drop-in workshop
*museum entry fees apply
This free workshop is part of the Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2024 running 21 Sept – 06 Oct. Across all three weekends of the Art Weeks Festival, venues around the county are offering activities, workshops, talks, demonstrations and have-a-go sessions for families – every weekend is Family Friendly Weekend!
Come along and have a go at weaving on a rigid heddle loom, where you will be able to make a small mat or coaster to take home with you. You can enjoy blending different colours and textures to make something unique! While you wait (or after you’ve finished) you can also have fun with raw sheep’s fleece, get creative and see what you can make with it.

‘Working with British, particularly local wool in undyed and natural colours, is very important to me because it is a fibre that grows in abundance around us here in the UK. It is soft, has fantastic warming properties and crucially, is also biodegradable. It enables me to create textiles that not only feel and look good, but are also functional and can be returned to nourish the earth at the end of their long life. The regeneratively farmed wool that I work with actively increases the biodiversity of the local area.’ Jade Ogden
Jade is also running a Weaving Workshop for adults on 26th September: More info here
