One of the highlights of Spinning a Yarn has been the number of people who have enthusiastically taken part in over 30 workshops, working with wool and creating beautiful artworks, inspired by endangered species and habitats in Somerset.
The craft worksheets created by artists Lydia Needle and Nina Gronw-Lewis have been used all around the county, both by individuals and in facilitated workshops run by artists Luan MacDonald, Gary Mills, Lydia and Nina.
Over 100 handmade wool artworks have been collected in to create a stunning collaborative artwork, on display in the Mapstone Gallery at the Somerset Rural Life Museum until 30 November.

Luan ran 17 workshops with the Conversation Clubs and Together Events, run by Somerset Diverse Communities and Community Council Somerset. A series of free workshops also took place in Somerset Libraries over the summer months, at Minehead, Priorswood, Glastonbury and Chard.

Further workshops took place at the Rural Life Museum, SAW’s Online Art Group, at ACE Arts Somerton and National Trust Holnicote House.
It’s been amazing to see everyone’s creativity, from young children, adults who have never tried the techniques before, to experienced crafters – and everyone in between!
“I’m blown away by how the wool has all come together, I can’t get over how fantastic this is.“
“What a treat to be with others and just relax and make something gorgeous.“
